IMAGE ANALYSIS FOR MONITORING BUILDING MATERIALS

CORDIS provides links to public deliverables and publications of HORIZON projects.

Links to deliverables and publications from FP7 projects, as well as links to some specific result types such as dataset and software, are dynamically retrieved from OpenAIRE .

Exploitable results

The general aim of this project was the development and the introduction of automated image analysis techniques into the petrographic analysis methods for moniroring and assessing quality of concrete and cementitious building materials. Traditional petrographic analysis aminly consists of a qualitative and subjectiveassessment of a number of relavant parameters for the durability of concrete which is a serious limitation of thin section analysis. Several of these parameters can be quantified by image analysis methods which replace traditional time consuming point count techniques. Automated image analysis methods have been developed to quantify the W/C ratio and the homogeneity of the cement paste, to investigate quantitatively the cement microstructure using polished sections and SEM techniques, to characterize the air void system using automated image analysis, to characterize the presence and the morphology of cracks and to recognise adn quantify crack patterns.
