Development of recyclable upholstery textiles for automotive industry design and public transport

Objective

Automotive industries are forced to recycle their
products after use. At the end of their life, cars have
to be disassembled and the spare parts should be used for
the same or similar products, to reduce waste and energy
consumption as well as to save resources. Especially
products which are used for furnishing and upholstery of
car seats, composed of laminated structures of expanded
Polyurethane and PES or PA fabrics, still have to be
disposed of.
By the application of a new textile production technology
a soft and voluminous product, so called knitted non
woven, in which 100% textile fibres and also 100% of the
same polymer class (e.g. PES) will be developed to
substitute the Polyurethane compounds. The new
construction (show below) will perform as:
fully recyclable textile product
cycle processing by use of recycling fibres again for
the new product, obtained from the product
better wearing properties, slightly higher costs than
expanded Polyurethane
The project will provide a pilot plant production and
develop all the necessary production parameters for the
most common applications in car seat upholstery and
furnishing textiles. Within two to three years after the
completion of the project the industrial experiences made
from the first industrial production lines will lead to
various industrial applications.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
