Objective
The aim of this project is to develop a multifunctional
monitoring system for reliable process monitoring during
machining with rotary tools in single spindle flexible
production units. The system will be easily used and
applied to the machine tool with low cost and effort. In
comparison with conventional systems on the market at
present, this system will include the following
innovative features:
improved reliability due to detection of and
compensation for stochastic variations in production.
significantly less cost and effort in installation,
commissioning and use. due to self adjustment of the
system through signal monitoring.
considerably reduced learning and optimisation of the
monitoring parameters by the operator.
extension of capabilities with regard to machine
diagnosis and process optimisation.
The main benefits for the user are:
reduction of production costs by guaranteeing stable,
robust production processes.
effective safeguarding of product quality.
tighter process control
improved environmental and worker safety
This project targets the improvement of reliability and
quality control in the component supply industry and so
will contribute towards the objectives of the Targeted
Research Action task forces for:
New generation aircraft
Car of tomorrow
Trains and railway systems of the future
Maritime systems of the future
The system developed will also contribute towards
realising competitive products for the European materials
(e.g. metalworking) industry. Work on the project is
divided into three phases:
elaboration and detailed specification of the basic
principles for describing the process/system state on the
basis of sensor signals, analysis and description of
stochastic influencing variables.
development and optimisation of the system prototype,
including capacity for integration into a CNC control
system.
trials in production and cost benefit analysis.
