Deliverables

A modular, transportable and user-friendly experimental apparatus based on ESPI (Electronic Speckle Interferometry) has been realised. It may be used both in laboratories and in industrial environments. Through the ESPI technique it is possible to analyse gradients of refractive index due to local variations of density and/or temperature inside fluids, induced by growth or dissolution of crystals, or by convection movements of the fluid. Software has been developed that acquires images and analyses fringes in different ways according to the velocity of decay of the signal contrast. Being that ESPI is an interferometric technique, final users of it may be university research centres and industries where it must be studied in real time phenomena producing mechanical deformations comparable with wavelength of laser source, or refractive index variations giving rise to optical path variations of the order of wavelength. The main benefit of this technique is the possibility to acquire information about the physical system observed in times of the order of hundredths of a second, improving therefore, the standard speckle interferometry performances.
