Objective
The proposal deals with inflated structures supported by helium or air filled pressurized fabric or foil elements. These structures are foldable, deployable, easy to transport, extremely lightweight and can be used as temporary housing, roofs, tents or shelters, as space frames for antennas and as girders, both in ground or aerospace application or as supporting structures in extremely light foldable airships. Since the material and structural behaviour of inflated structures follow totally different principles from the ones for classical metal or composite structures, their material, design, manufacturing and operational aspects have not yet been explored.
As a result, of this a huge world wide market has been left unadressed. In order to prepare for this market a consortium of 9 partners from 4 countries (2 SMEs, 3 large and 2 medium sized companies and 2 research institutes) have combined their expertise in developing new techniques for analysis, design, joining, assembly and disassembly, operation and active control of this new type of structures. The outcome will be demonstrated on three prototypes: a building, a space frame and an airship structure.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
