Surface elements like kitchen worktops and sinks require very good staining resistance for appearance as well as sanitary reasons. Microcracking plays a major role here. Thus, it is desirable to develop materials showing low damage (low propensity to microcracking) under expected mechanical loading in service.
Techniques including cyclic loading, in-situ SEM and other techniques were employed to quantify tensile damage and to optimise Armeco formulations.
