Nonwovens forming process with spunlaced fibres & new system - h/w & s/w - to achieve such a process

Objective

Objectives and content
The purpose of the project is to produce SPUNLACED
NONWOVENS by using air jets instead of water jets. It is
therefore necessary to study all suitable machinery and
plants to achieve the new process. This process is
basically innovating because the kinetic action is
obtained through the air, as water is only a transient
mean for energy transfer. Moreover water consumption is
very low: water must not be recycled and the traditional
expensive recycling depuration plants are not necessary.
This new technology, through a lower mechanical stress of
fibres, will allow:
use of innovating fibres having high technological
content (alternative to the natural fibres), as well as
the use of materials different from general fibres
(special fibres such as glass, ceramic, carbon, silicon.
etc.);
utilisation of cheap synthetic fibres too, that are
usually used only in dry processes because in the known
spunlaced process the fibre sizing pollute quickly the
recycling water circuit; on the contrary in the
innovative process, as the recycling is not necessary,
the sizing remain in the water and it is enough to
separate them through flocculation before eliminating the
same water, by means of simple and low operating cost
plants;
to enlarge the range of nonwovens that can be produced
as far as the weight is concerned.
The product will have a textile, flexible and clothing
aspect, but it will have mechanical resistance (i.e. 250
NW for 60 gr./sq.m) that will be suitable for use in the
most skilled fields of converting techniques and
particularly:
aeronautical and missilery.
automotive and high speed.
technical products for the struggle against the air and
soil defilement.
safety of working places.
communication infrastructures.
Also the management of new process could have some
advantages in reduction of:
energy consumption.
acoustic and vibration defilement.
water pollution.
maintenance costs.
in addition to the fact that personnel with higher
professional level will be required.
What above can be quantified in a reduction of the
product final cost of:
6- 7% for use of more economical fibres under the same
product.
9-11% for managing of the whole process due to a lower
cost of the plant which is foreseen at the rate of 25-
30%.
Above data are calculated for a developing trend, for use
increase and consumption of spunlaced nonwovens of
approx. 20% per year.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
