Objective
The FLITE network is an industrial forum involving representatives of all actors concerned by the challenge of ICAO CNS/ATM implementation for solving the traffic issue of the European airspace. Based on technical exchanges between all these actors, the network shall in particular conduct analysis of the maturity of the basic operational requirements, mainly those coming out of the ICAO ADS/ATN panel (adapted via the ODIAC committee to the European context), resulting in frame the ECARDA initiative in different national, European commission or Euro control funded research activities, and, also open discussion on the new concepts beyond the ICAO's one (such as "free flight").
First goal is to ensure better information dissemination in order to avoid internal competition and redundancy and help concentrating on straightforward objectives for each of the already running project. This industrial driven forum will give an overview/feedback on the achievement of the running (and/or achieved) of some of those projects. Based on this reference and considering the lessons learned, recommendations will be made for new R&D projects and/or on the need for complementary standardization activities that could faster a potential industrial application. As new concepts have appeared in the meantime going beyond the ICAO recommendations (based on additional technologies) and in order to keep Europe in the loop of non European (mainly U.S) interesting research activities, recommendations will be made for new R&D projects and/or on the need for complementary standardization activities. This issue is of primary importance when faced to the diversity of organizations and people trying to develop some subset of the CNS/ATM concept all over the world. This goal is also concurrent with most of the proposed projects goals as these projects are intended to participate to the international community standards and recommended practices development.
