Support Tool for the Adequate Determination of Tolerances

Objective

The quality requirements of the final product are mainly expressed by the tolerances (dimension, form, location and surface finish). Many SMEs have difficulties to choose the type and value of tolerances, which is of extreme irnportance, since a bad choice can result in a product which can not be manufactured or only at a high cost. The aim of this project is to develop a tool to support the designer in deterrnining the correct type of tolerances to be applied and determining, for each tolerance type, recornrnended values such that the workpiece can be machined, measured and assembled. This tool will also verify the defined tolerances on contradictions, redundant tolerances and missing notations.
