Objective
Hard chrome plating is widely used to provide wear and corrosion resistant surfaces to mechanical components. However the electroplating solutions contain hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) which is becoming to be regarded as toxic and an environmental pollutant. Lhe objectives of this project are to develop and demonstrate the novel amorphous metal plating process which potentially gives very high wear and corrosion resistance and does not contain chromium. The project will also address the industrial aspects of substituting the new process into existing plating facilities in both technical and economic terms.
