Development of Automated Handling Devices for the Flexible Transhipment of Goods

Objective



The handling and transhipment of goods is becoming increasingly automated allowing improvements to delivery times, logistics and cost. In certain strategic material handling sectors such as pallets and containers the use of standard products hinders the complete automation of distribution lines. Automated guided vehicles, palletised assembly and fully automated warehousing are in advanced stages of development and are used extensively in the manufacturing and distribution industry. To ensure their complete effectiveness, achieve a complete automated manufacturing and distribution cycle deficiencies need to be overcome and these issues addressed. - automated transfer and sorting of palletised goods into and out of storage loading bays, vehicle trailers, container wagons and aircraft. - the development of an intelligent pallet handling device. - the palletising or container handling of excessive or awkward loads.
