Objective
The objective of the project is to give the technology supply sectors the stimulus they need to develop and market affordable flexible, well-integrated computer-based design, modelling and manufacturing systems for the European craft sector. This will be achieved by three parallel precompetitive developments: (I) A thorough analysis of functional requirements in a craft context, and the development of a prototype open and extendable software system meeting them. The heart of the system will be an advanced feature-based assembly modeller closely linked to manufacture. (2) A detailed study of a promising computer-controlled machine tool architecture and the development of prototype low cost machine tools based on it. The current lack of a low cost machine tool architecture is the major reason why the technology supply sectors have not yet delivered. (3) The testing, application, and demonstration of these developments by project partners. A network of craft enterprise workshops, support organisations and other partners will be equipped with prototype systems during the project. They will have an important role in defining project requirements, testing, demonstration and dissemination.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
