Objective
The project seeks to research the basis for the development of a new type of thermoelectric device which will have a much lower effective cost per cooling watt and be significantly easier to use than existing conventional devices. In attempting to extend the use of thermoelectric cooling into general applications it is proposed that the engineering design, materials and production technology become as, if not more, important than the overall performance ( i.e. figure of merit ). Such an approach has not been considered before and it is the prime purpose of the proposed project to develop a more complete understanding of the conflicting design and materials requirements in order to identify and evaluate the true potential of this strategy. In order to specifically address these complex and conflicting requirements the project will be focused on the development and demonstration of advanced thermoelectric devices by the consideration of; * Design configurations with respect to the device materials matrix, cost, power supply requirements, performance and manufacturing technology * Novel ceramic based composites as integral substrate/heat exchangers * Use of conventional and polycrystalline telluride an alternative thermoelectric materials

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
