Monitoring industrial cooling installations to prevent corrosion

Objective

A lot of industrial plants in power (thermal, nuclear station) or in manufacturing (steel, agro-industry) need a permanent source of cool water to operate. In these cooling installations, almost 50% of the tube failures comes from corrosion leading to major water leaks problems (safety, availability, efficiency, production losses, etc.). The aim of the project is to develop an innovative computer driven system, including chemicals, sensors and software, to monitor and to operate the whole cooling process enabling preventive maintenance strategies towards corrosion in order to reduce by more than 20% maintenance costs and to increase by 25% installation availability. Objectives of the project are: 1. To develop a friendly-user interactive software platform to allow on-line manufacturing process and maintenance monitoring including MMI (Man Machine Interface), data processing and 3D visual display. 2. To develop a preventive maintenance towards corrosion using an innovative existing 100% biodegradable chemicals. 3. To study and develop on-line specific sensor dedicated to both this chemicals and to corrosion control in order to have preventive action (chemicals injection and part replacement). Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
