Variable control rate valve for cryogenic application

Objective

The technical problems which this project aims to solve are associated initially with cryopresentation but will find application in all cryogenic fields and the handling of liquid gases. Cryopreservation requires extremely accurate temperature control. both during cooling and heating of the sample to be preserved. In order to effect such accuracy it is necessary to constantly monitor the sample and the chamber to a high degree of precision. Liquid Nitrogen is used to cool the samples. However the means of controlling the fluid flow (and therefore the temperature) is cumbersome as on off solenoid valves are used and this does not able accurate control of a smooth steady liquid flow. The project resolves to develop a more sophisticated accurate technique which will provide continuous control of the temperature in the chamber. To do this it will be necessary to: Design a new valve capable of operating at such low temperatures The valve should provide continuous variable control of fluid flow overcoming the limitations of current step control methods Select or develop materials suited to operation at such low temperatures. This valve w ill find wide application and increase the save handling of cryogenic liquids in all applicaations.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
