Exploitable results

Metallic moulds used in foundries are dressed with a die coating which provides lubrications, mechanical and thermal protection. This product is liable to fall into disrepair because of mechanical, thermal and physicochemical strains. It is then necessary to dress the refractory periodically. This has many disadvantages such as premature destruction of the mould, lower productivity, loss of raw materials and bad working conditions. The research intended will aim at optimizing surface treatment as well as application techniques on the metallic mould. A pre-heating procedure concerning tools will also be defined to be used in the process to lower thermal strains. The new permanent coating will be tested in foundries to take into account the needs of end-users at an industrial scale. The social, industrial and environmental impacts are expected to be high. The new permanent die coating will enable an increased productivity of 7% and to obtain a higher standard of end-product. The refractory dressing operation which is very repetitive will then be eliminated.
