Technology for the implementation of a standard european code in the carpet industry improving a closed loop system

Objective

In Europe, a yearly amount of approximately 1.7 mio tons of textile floorcoverings have to be disposed of. Until now their is no lable or code onto carpets content informations about materials or recycling options. So this project will create a coding system that will enable a reduction of the error rate in the sorting process from 20 to 10% and a reduction of the identification costs by 60%. The plarmed cost reduction is about 90 mio ECU per year. The necessary components of the coding-scarmer systems are the printer, the information and the scanner systems: . In the short term, the information technology can also be integrated in the company's QM system resp. used to create one. In the medium term, the code enables a consumer feedback plus constitutes a sales argument and in the long term it will enable the product's recycling. The implementation of the technology developed in the course of this project will establish a new European standard for codification and simple identification of textile floorcoverings to be recyded.
