Improvement of feed hygiene whilst optimizing energy consumption and assuring nutritional status for the pelleting of animal feed

Objective

The scientific and technical objectives of this research proposal concern the integrated manner of looking into the pelleting process of compound feed production and more specifically into the conditioning, pressing and cooling process from the point of view of the hygiene status, energy consumption, feeding value and the technical properties of the cornpound feed. The aim is to build on existing knowledge on compound feed production from a hygiene and energy saving point of view already available in the participating Research institutes (IFF from Germany and Tecaliman from France). Research is required to produce data on the time -temperature - moisture relationships needed to allow the participating compound feed manufacturers to decide which relationship will lead to an optimal way of hygienic compound feed production depending on the type of equipment and type of compound feed they are producing. European research should ensure that industry can profit not only from new knowledge but also from its integration with knowledge already available.
