Quality management of helical spring production technologies

Objective

Requirements in terms of functionality, reliability and price for the commonly used helical spring in industrial applications have risen tremendously. Commonly available production facilities such as electronical spring coiling equipment do not meet these needs satisfactorily. The main goal of this project is to develop new helical spring production technologies to enhance quality and decrease reject. Transfer functions to determine the relationship between spring wire characteristics and spring coiling tool positions will be developed. A data base system for material property data will be set up, analysed and their results implemented in a closed loop control algorithm to drive a compression spring coiler. The possibilities of the latest state of the art drive systems will be exploited to set up a high output "zero-error" spring production machine. A prototype will be the result of this project. The proposed project is directly related to the needs of the SME consortium. The SME proposer will exploit the results of the spring coiling prototype and its newly developed sensing techniques to increase productivity. Neither of the SME-members has the necessary research capability and resources to solely carry out this project.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
