Objective
SME companies have encountered problems in providing automatic inspection machines for labels used on pharmaceutical products and self adhesive postage stamps where the printed details must be 100% correct. The technical objectives of this research proposal concern the application and development of sensing devices and mechanisms that would facilitate automatic intelligent label inspection for pharmaceutical and other growing product areas. Research is required to characterise the label substrate behaviour and its effect upon label distortion and detection by relevant sensors.
