The research project will investigate the technical problems and the potential of a new type of cooling system for thermoplastic extrudates. This involves the semi-finished product being cooled by "cooling belts", rather than by cooling rolls as is current practice. It means that cooling times are considerably shorter and extrusion performance is greater. In addition it makes it possible to produce extrudates with lower internal stresses, which lends product design a whole new dimension, especially as regards thicker plastic sheets. It is intended that R&D service providers, suppliers of raw materials, machine manufacturers and producers of films will work together on the proposed project.
