High intensity magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducer system for homogenization of liquid and fuel like substances

Objective

- - Modern Merchant Marine Ships using Heavy Fuel Oils are equipped with a very complicated and continuos (= on-line) treatment process before the final consumption of the fuel in the propulsion and power generating diesel engines. The present treatment process is based on centrifugal separators, which however are over aged both of their technical solution and performance and safety. The target of this process is to create a solution, which together with a new Magnetostrictive Ultrasonic Transducer enables the development of a new kind of a homogenising and fine filtration system. The new Transducer will be created based on a recently developed composite material TERFENOL-D, which will make possible the use of high power intensity up to 100 W/cm2 and higher with frequency range between 18-35 kHz in a continuous process within 24 hours a day. The technology which is considered in this development project will enable finer filtration for deteriorating Heavy Fuel qualities, more complete combustion in the marine diesel engines, less wearing in the engines, less sludge's (i.e. waste of water and fuel oil emulsion) and by means of a small quantity water well emulsified in the fuel, the Nox exhaust emissions will be reduced and the high thermal corrosion will be avoided in the engines.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
