Objective
Only recently such a new measuring and testing technology called mistan (micro structure analysis - see appendix 1) was developed for the plastic, paint and medical industry. It already proved to retrieve the desired micromechanical material information continuously from the top coating layer into the prime material coated. Unfortunately, this technology is ineffective as a tool for very hard coatings like the one of hard anodised aluminium. However, it is highly worth-while to explore the possibility of adopting this technology / developing a similar technology for the measurement of the micro mechanical physical properties of anodised aluminium. The research will consider the adaptation of the existing mistan micro structure analysis towards analysis of hard anodised aluminium surfaces. The results will be validated by the analysis of four different anodising technologies with respect to its micro mechanical build up and behaviour. Three of this anodising technologies are already well known and well established, one is new and needs detailed information on the coating build up and its overall micro mechanical behaviour in order to be realised.
