A portable easy-to-use system for the assessment of concrete repair

Objective

Concrete damage seriously affects the structural integrity of buildings and other constructions. Builders and owners shift the responsibility for a good quality repair to specialised SME companies who pair and assess quantitatively the repair quality. At the moment most companies use a time-consuming and cumbersome method in which samples of the repair substance are brought onto standard files and afterwards are analysed on adhesive strength by recognised laboratories. This procedure also causes uncertainty about the results. With the R&D proposal an easy-to-use scanner is developed using modern sensor technology which in-situ and non-destructively determines the adhesive strength of the repair. The economic benefits will amount up to 10 MECU/year and the amount of waste (concrete, adhesives, dust) will be reduced by several tons/year in the EU.
