Objective
The objective of this project is to develop plasma torch prototypes that are capable of producing a flame 20 cm or more wide. The RTD goals are to develop a breadboard model in order to gather additional performance data to results obtained as a proof of concept. The technical parameters obtained will enable the construction of pre-production prototypes for evaluation in regard to their intended application areas, which in this case is the heat-treatment of textiles and the deposition of metallic and other powders including thermoset and thermoplastic. Powder feed systems will be developed alongside the plasma torch for this purpose.
