Objective
The public opinion is challenging the companies to work intensively on environmental affairs. Environmental assessments based on a life cycle perspective is gaining more and more importance within the industry. To survive in the competition with SMEs from other parts of the world it is very important that European SMEs can produce satisfactory environmental information on their product and processes. The problem is that LCA is a complicated and time-consuming method which requires a lot of knowledge of the performer. Smaller companies do not have this knowledge and not the time to accomplish a full LCA. The objective of the intended project is to develop a tool, TIE, for performing simplified LCAs. The tool will be designed for use in smaller companies within the manufacturing industry. It will be designed for use in product development and also for development of production processes. An estimation is that at least 20 % of all European SMEs have a large need for such a tool.
