Research towards the development of a switching and sensing fabric utilising conductive fibres in a woven structure

Objective

The research proposed focuses on new applications for conductive fibres that are currently employed for dissipating static in clothing and carpets. The ability to use these fibres to create flexible switch and sensing technology within a fabric will be explored by researching different weave techniques, the interface of the conductive fabric to electronic circuitry, and testing of fabrics to ensure durability and effective electrical performance. This innovative fabric responds to being touched, and can deform and mould in shape, opening up many new areas of switching and sensing applications in information technology, medical products, aerospace, furnishings, clothings toys and automotive controls.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
