Objective
Starting from the acoustic vibration technology, the project has to perform the make-ready of NDT systems adapted to the main following markets: -Development of a system based on the use of a standard portable computer in order to obtain a commercial product costing less than 15 K ECUS for an on site use. (especially in the building sector) -Receipt controls on panels packages at the entry of the plant. -Version integrated in a production line while retaining the constraint of simplicity, soundness and an instrumentation cost inferior to 30 K ECUS. (out of supply and draining devices) The aim of the research project is to use acoustic vibration analysis techniques to grade wood based panels or timbers according their stiffness properties. It implies the verification of the grading capability and the conception of an adapted equipment. Furthermore, the prediction of defects that allows prediction of strength and also the level of internal stresses, which is a serious defect in panels production, seems to be possible. Indeed, the study of the eigenfrequencies spectrum which can be disturbed by the presence of big defects (it can be observed some eigenfrequencies shifts and peak spreading) gives information about the quality of the panel. The possibilities to exploit these perturbations is also part of the project.
