Applications of a newly developed mini aid plasma spray system

Objective

Surface technologies is a well recognised key factor of success for the leading manufacturing industries. The European market for the thermal spraying processes has been evaluated in around 1.000 Millions ECU with an expected growth rate of 5%. Presently a strong limitation in the technology applications is the heat input and a real breakthrough can be achieved by reducing the heat transfer of the process, allowing the possibility to expand the field applications to smaller and thinner substrates/products. The present proposal aims to verify such possibility by evaluating the actual in process performance of a newly developed plasma prototype system and by verifying the potential market in the EC both systems processing and applications. he new niche accessible by the new system can be estimated as a meaningful percentage of the existing market. Two main objectives will be accomplished during the feasibility study project: first, a fairly innovative plasma coating prototype (based on the integration of a inverter - based power supply) targeted to minimise the heat input achievable with conventional plasma systems will be developed. second, the coating performance achievable by the technique will be assessed by experimental tests. The proposers SMEs profile (know how, market penetration) is able to ensure a qualified exploratory and feasibility study, whose results need to be exploited on larger scale, by establishing a cooperative research project.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
