Advanced hard coatings based on ceramic nanocomposites

Objective

A new coating material resistant to the combined action of corrosion and wear is proposed. The coating is of an original nanocomposite type based on the alumina-silicon carbide system. Special powders will be prepared by the University of Siegen in conjunction with the Prime Proposer (Zoz GmbH) and then produced as sprayed coating on low alloy steel substrates by the Partner SME Proposer (Plasma Coatings Ltd). Powder and coating microstructures will be respectively characterised by the Universities of Siegen (Germany) and Leeds (UK). The latter University will also carry out specialised corrosive-wear testing to ascertain performance characteristics . The expected economic and industrial benefits as well as the environmental impact of the new kind of protective coating are addressed.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
