Résultats exploitables
This project has obtained polyester parts through the closed moulding processes. The mould has been compounded of two parts: a rigid polyester semi-mould and a flexible silicone semi-mould. These types of semi-moulds allow developing low cost processes for composites.
Four different concepts of flexible semi-moulds have been developed:
- Block semi-mould;
- Shaped flexible semi-mould;
- Flexible sheet with protuberances;
- Inflatable semi-mould.
The composites manufacturing process selected to verified the semi-moulds developed are the following:
- Resin Transfer Moulding (R.T.M.);
- Infusion Moulding;
- Vacuum Bag Moulding.
Five parts has been manufactured by the processes mentioned using this types of semi-mould:
- Three hollow parts (2 vessel and a part for agriculture equipment);
- Two shaped parts (1/8 of sphere and a welding protection part).
The benefits of this project can be resumed in two points:
- The new processes permit the manufacture of parts in a clean atmosphere that can compete in cost with the ones manufactured by open moulding processes;
- The composite materials transformers will increase their competitiveness since they will be able to manufacture parts of higher quality at lower prices because hand labour, tooling cost and rejected parts are considerably reduced.
