Corporate research for the development of a reliable tyre pressure monitoring system

Objective

The proposal describes an effort that focuses on making driving safer while improving vehicle's safety efficiency. The main idea is to provide the driver with a warning signal in case the tyre air pressure deviates from a normal predetermined range of values. The system is based on a capacitive coupling between rotating and non rotating metallic annular strips. An electronic circuit produces an output, whenever its input falls below a certain level, which drives an indicator to warn the driver. Installation of such a system on any vehicle, especially on big long trucks with twin tyres, could contribute a lot on road accident reduction. Furthermore, tyres with proper air pressure could offer fuel economy, prolong the tyre life and provide confidence to the driver. Patents have been issued for the device from USA, AUSTRALIA and EPO (General European and Seven National Patents) while patents from CANADA and JAPAN are currently pending. It is estimated that the duration of the project will be 24 months. A period of 6 10 months will be required prior to manufacture and subsequent commercial exploitation.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
