Objective
* A requirement profile for new yarns has been worked out by the use of interviews with possible customers.
* The prototype of the new machine is ready at RWTH.ITA.
* Optimised machine settings for the production of the yarns have been evaluated.
* A testing machine that has been adapted with new load cells.
An optimise dyeing recipe has been elaborated.
The production of combination yarns with elastan can be carried out using a wide range of processes. The conventional processes are covering, core spinning and core twisting. These conventional technologies suffer from their low production speed. To get a bobbin with 2 kg of covered elastic yarn can be last several days. One consequence is, that the producers of yarn can't respond quickly on the demands of their customers. It is planned, to develop a new fast process for producing two component yarns from polyester POY (best suitable for clothing) and elastan. For this, an existing air jet texturing machine will be modified and adjusted according to the necessary requirements. It is particularly of great importance to combine the currently subsequent steps texturing and air jet covering in one single process. To achieve this, the necessary requirements have to be defined. In addition, the necessary machine and process parameters excerting an influence on the yarn quality have to be determined in preliminary trials. In subsequent experiments, the behaviour of the combination yarns in the following processes weaving, knitting and finishing must be analyzed. Their aim is to determine the optimum yarn characteristics of elastic combination yarns and subsequently to define optimized machine settings of an airjet texturing machine. This includes the development of an optimized testing equipment for elastic yarns. A comparison of the characteristics of the new combination yarns with those of conventionally manufactured yarns will lead to a new yarn profile, which cannot be achieved economically using conventional methods. The partners involved in this project ensure that the performance of the manufactured elastic combination yarns can be analyzed through almost the complete textile chain. The expected results would give the small and medium sized companies involved in the project a distinctive innovative advantage over their competitors especially from the far east in the market of elastic yarns and fabrics.
