INTEGRATION OF COGENERATION AND AQUIFER HEAT STORAGE TO RETROFIT THE ENERGIE SUPPLY IN A BLOCK OF BUILDINGS

Objective

This project aims a strong reduction of fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emission by integration of heat and power cogeneration (innovative type) and acquifer heat storage in a conventional, central heating system for a 20 years old block of buildings with 80000 m² floor area, in which the heat demand was alreday reduced by 40% in the past due to energy saving measures in the buildings. This project also aims to demonstrate that digital technology is very well suited to control, monitor and otpimize the integrated energy system, consisting of the central heating system and the various building heating systems.

1. innovative technology :
- a cogeneration-unit, which implies a reduction of NOx-emission (75 instead of 140gr) - An integral system appraoch for retrofitting or new building of large block of buildings (district level : building area 80000 m²)
- Utilization of energy sources (heat-storage) for the retrofit of a large scale, central heating system. The overcapacity of the heat exchangers for room heating, as a result of energy saving measurements, is exploited to apply low temperatures in the warm-water distribution circuit
- Decoupling of heat and power consumption with the long-term aquifer storage
- Sophisticated DDC control system to control, monitor and optimize both the supply 'central system' and the demand side (building heating system).
2. Context :
- An optimal integration of heat and power cogeneration and aquifer heat storage for the retrofit of a block of buildings with 80000 m² floor area
- Integration of control and monitoring in a building management system

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
