Incentives and obstacles to the implementation of more sustainable methods in agriculture in Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain

Objective

As a sub-project to contract no. EV5V-CT92-0162 (lncentives and obstacles to the implementation of more sustainable methods in agriculture in Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain) this Baltic proposal aims at the same goals:
- to investigate the problems of implementing more sustainable methods in agriculture
- to analyse the attitudes among farmers towards farming in an environmental friendly way
- to analyse the role of the advisory system and study groups/experience groups in developing more sustainable methods of producing.
Additionally the sub-project will also take into account the possibilities of promoting a sustainable farming in the light of the special problems related to transition from collective farming to private farming, the whole political situation where new agricultural policies have to be formulated, and the poor economic condition of the countries.
With the involved research institutions' high estimated contacts to agriculture, advisory system and ministries the results of the planned reports will be important when constructing and implementing new agricultural policies.
Another achievement will be an integration of the three planned research groups in the international research community, both in relation to the EC-project and in relation to a large Nordic-Baltic research programme. In addition to the scientific interests, the EC- and the Nordic project will contribute with a "flow over" of the experiences and problems of environmental regulations from the EC and Nordic countries to the Baltic states.
