Control of corrosion and scaling in geothermal systems

Objective

THE COMPREHENSION OF THE CORROSION AND SCALING MECHANISMS AND THE IMPROVEMENT TO MEANS FOR COMBATING THESE PHENOMENA ARE THE MAIN AIMS 0F THE JOULE 2 PROGRAMME "CONTROL 0F CORROSION AND SCALING IN GEOTHERMAL SYSTEMS''. THE APPLICATION 0F THE RESULTS CONCERN IN PRIORITY THE EXISTING AND/OR PLANNED FRENCH AND GREEK LOW ENTHALPY GEOTHERMAL PLANTS AND THE ITALIAN AND GREEK HIGH ENTHALPY ONES. THE POSSIBILITIES FOR DEVELOPING THE USE 0F GEOTHERMAL ENERGY IN HUNGARY AND IN ROMANIA HAVE LET TO PROPOSING AN EXTENSION 0F THE PROGRAMME, THUS ALLOWING THE ASSOCIATION OF NEW RESEARCH PARTNERS. THIS PROPOSAL WAS JOINTLY WORKED OUT WITH THE CENTRAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR CHEMISTRY (CRIC-BUDAPEST) AND THE ELECTROCHEMICAL TECHNOLOGIES AND ACTIVE ANTICORROSIVE PROTECTION LABORATORY 0F THE RESEARCH AND DESIGN INSTITUTE FOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING (ICPE C-60, BUCHAREST), ASSOCIATED WITH THE COMPUTER AIDED ELECTROCHEMISTRY LABORATORY 0F THE UNIVERSITY ''POLITECHNICA" OF BUCHAREST (CAEL) AND TO THE BIOACTIVE AND BIOCOMPATIBLE POLYMERS DEPARTMENT 0F THE PETRUPONI INSTITUTE 0F MACROMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY (BBPDICM), IN IASI (ROMANIA). THE AIMS OF THE PROPOSED PROGRAMME, RELATIVE To THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED WHEN EXPLOITING GEOTHERMAL RESSOURCES (CORROSION, SCALE 0F CaC03...) ARE THE FOLLOWING :
1. MODELLING 0F CORROSION AND SCALE FORMATION IN THE TUBING (CRIC). 2. CREATION AND TESTING CORROSION AND/OR SCALING INHIBITORS, APPROPRIATED TO THE PROBLEMS (CRIC, BBPDICM AND ICPE C-60).
3. DETERMINATION 0F THE INFLUENCE OF IONS (Cl-, HS-), 0F THE PH AND OF THE INHIBITORS 0N THE CORROSION PROCESS (CAEL).
4. COLLECT AND DETERMINATION OF THE CORROSION PARAMETERS IN CURRENTLY OPERATIONAL GEOTHERMAL PLANTS, ESPECIALLY IN ROMANIA (ICPE C-60). 5. DESIGN AND TESTING 0F A PROTOTYPE FOR THE MEASUREMENT 0F THE CORROSION (ICPE C-60 AND CAEL).
6. SOLVING THE PROBLEMS 0F EXTERNAL CORROSION OF TUBINGS AND RESERVOIRS BY A AUTOMATIC MONITORED CATHODIC PROTECTION SYSTEM (CAEL, FOR MODELLING PHENOMENA AND ICPE C-60 FOR THE DESIGN AND THE EXPERIMENTATION OF THE ELECTRIC AND ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS).
7. TESTING OF PROTECTIVE INTERNAL COATINGS FOR TUBINGS AND EXAMINATION 0F THE FEASIBILITY OF AN INTERNAL CATHODIC PROTECTION (ICPE C-60).

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
