Objetivo The elaboration of a masterplan for the integration of renewable energy sources in European regions is at present being realized for three regions: Saarland in Germany, Gran Canaria on the Canary Islands and Chalkidiki in Greece. These three regions are very different and for each of them specific results are expected about the integration potential of renewable energies. The aim of the research work is the elaboration of a common methodology which permits to assess the integration potential for renewable energies in European regions in general. This will become a valuable tool for the further promotion of the use of new technologies in the field of energy generation and supply. The proposal of Slovenia to be member of this group of investigated regions is highly welcome. The Slovenian participation will broaden the basis for the later assessment of integration schemes for renewable energies in Europe. The work proposed by the University of Ljubljana is in conformity with the objectives of the original project and will enlarge the database for a supplementary exploitation of specific integration features for renewable energies in European regions. Furthermore the proposing faculty for Mechanical Engineering, Laboratory for Solar Technology provides an excellent scientific staff and facilities which permit to expect a collaboration of excellence. The Slovenian proposal contains additional contributions which extend the scope of the project without interferring the original approach. The proposal fits into the overall schedule of the original work. It can be embedded in the work schedule with an expected interface in automn of this year without creating any major coordination problem.
