The measurement of environmental radiation doses and dose rates

Objective

The additional proposed research work on environmental radiation measurements comprise five selected proposals (from a total of 13 received) listed in order of priority.
Proposals dealing with new sensitive TL materials for determining environmental photon doses were preferred.

Proposal 01: Institute of Nuclear Physics, Krakow, Poland will mainly contribute to the project using its well recognised expertise in developing sensitive TL materials suited for environmental monitoring.
Obviously their new LiF: Mg.Cu,P material will be of special mutual interest also for the field experiments planned at Ris0 and PTB.
Proposal 02: Institute of isotopes and Atomic Energy research Institute will mainly contribute to the project by providing new passive TL dosemeter systems based on Al203:C and CaSO4:Dy and active detectors for determining the environmental photon spectra and dose rates.
They also propose to study the impact of environmental parameters on TL materials.

Proposal 03: Central Laboratory for Radiological Protection, Warsaw, Poland has big expertice in nation wide environmental monitoring in Poland and will mainly contribute with the development and study of measurement cabins containing dosemeters for determining both the ambient radon concentrations and photon dose rates.

Proposal 04: Micro Vacuum Ltd, Microelectronics, Budapest, Hungary is a commercial company employing a scientific staff involved with the development of advanced sensitive detectors for environmental monitoring. The company will provide new detectors for the field experiments in Ris0 and PTB and they further plan to establish a Hungarian Environmental Measurement Station.

Proposal 05: Solar-Terrestrial Influence Laboratory, Sofia, Bulgaria is planning the establishment of a nation wide network of early warning radiation monitors in Bulgaria and they intend to compare Russian manufactured detectors with "Western" made using the Ris0 and PTB facilities to enable a cost/benefit analysis.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
