Network on the chemistry and physics of molecular superconductors

Objective

It is proposed to supplement the Network on the Chemistry and Physics of Molecular Superconductors formed by seven laboratories of EC countries by the UNIPRESS (High pressure Research Center of the polish Academy of Sciences). A complementary expertise of UNIPRESS on: i) design of hydrostatic pressure systems, ii) development in measurements techniques, and iii) achievements in basic research of magnetotransport and magnetooptics of semiconductors, can be employed to widen the experimental opportunities being possessed by the laboratories forming the Network. There are two regions of molecular superconductors property studies which are planned to be carried on with substantial contribution of UNIPRESS. First, electrical conductivity and magnetoconductivity measured at milikelvin temperatures, up to 15 kbar. It requires a miniaturization of the pressure cells used. Second, optics and magnetooptics measurements performed with a purpose to search for electronic band gaps, cyclotron resonance and plasma frequencies. The latter techniques could be used after minor adaptation of the existing high pressure facilities with a possible raising pressure limits (up to 20 kbar). It is also believed that experiences of UNIPRESS gained from studies of low dimensional materials (such as semiconductors and high T superconductors) will be of significant use in attempts to understand c microscopic nature of molecular superconductors. High pressure studies of magnetotransport in the temperature range down to 2K and magnetic fields uP to 16 Tesla as well as photoconductivity measurements can be performed at UNIPRESS. Optics and magnetooptics studies are planned to be carried on at Oxford and Nijmegen.
Application is made for postdoctoral appointments to enable research staff of the Network laboratories as well as UNIPRESS to transfer from one research group to another to perform particular studies employing the best experimental facilities available. Scientist in charge of UNIPRESS will attend annual meetings of the appropriate members of the Network to assess progress. One of these meetings will be organized in Warsaw.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
