Selective processes and catalysis involving small molecules

Objective

The European Research Network has the aims to improve synthetic methods, optimise processes, and find new chemical uses via small molecules activation.
To achieve these goals it is proposed to strengthen several aspects of selective processes involving smaU molecules not yet enough developed among the actual participants in the following priority.
1 - Selective catalytic activation of alkynes in order to transform low molecular compounds into high value oligomers and polymers.
One important group of electroactive polymers concems those with pi conjugated (polyacetylenes) main chains in which the transport of electrons can contribute to the overall conductivity.
The pi-conjugated compounds will be prepared by means of catalytic polymerization of alkynes induced by the metathesis and/or Ziegler-Natta catalysts and ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of cyclooctatetraenes, paracyclophanes.
Prague will provide the experience on formation and study of polymers.
2 - Activation of dinitrogen N2 and development of catalysts for the low temperature ammonia synthesis.
An important aim is the development of new generation of the ammonia synthesis catalysts characterized by a high efficiency at lowered temperatures and pressures.
An approach based on application of supported metal carbonyl clusters as precursors of catalytically active species will be exploited. The preparation of wide range of catalysts based on supported complexes of ruthenium and iron will be achieved and their testing for in ammonia synthesis will be studied in Moscow.
3 - Catalytic activation of small molecules, especially olefins, in water.
The performance of catalytic transformations in water offers an increasing interest for chemical industry.
It allows the introduction of clean processes easy to perform and without danger for environment with respect to organic phase processes. This proposal with the help of Debrecen will offer to the Network to gain experience for the transfer into water of processes involving olefins, recently discovered in organic phase catalytic reactions.
4- Selective activation of small molecules with the help of electrochemical methods.
Small molecules (CO2, SO2, NO, Cl-freons, etc.) have potential for processes of carboxylation, sulfonylation, carbodithionation, nitrosation, trifluoromethylation based on direct one-step introduction of small molecules into organic compounds.
The combination of electrochemical methods and metal catalysts will be put in action in Kiev for the selective synthesis of a-oxocarboxylic and perfluorocarboxylic acids from CO2 and organic nitroso derivatives from NO.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
