Development of Wine Industry Automation Systems

Objective

The purpose of the project is to develop a computing infrastructure that will help the Central and Eastern European wine industry to implement modern production systems and achieve constant quality wines.

Advanced special purpose hardware and software will be developed and implemented as pilot systems in existing wine industries situated in Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. The technologies involved comprise microcomputer development and special microelectronic structures, industrial software, data collection and data communication. The approach will lead to generic components which can be used in a wide range applications. In addition, methods and techniques to control, inspect and document the quality of several types of wines will be designed and developed. This will help wine producers to meet the quality assurance standards required by ISO 9000.

INFORMATION DISSEMINATION ACTIVITIES

Presentations of the concepts and applications of the project will be made to assist managers of Central European wine industries to assimilate the concepts and understand the benefits from its use, and to ask for their ideas and requirements to be used in design of the products. When the pilot installations are completed, the audience will be enlarged to include managers from other sectors of the food industry where the results could be applied.
