Objective
Definition, feedstock characterization and engineering of a circulating fluidized bed boiler with a capacity of 35 T/H of superheated steam burning low calorific value coal (3300 kcal/kg) with a high sulphur content (4-6 %) and high ash content (35-45 %) from Aragon and Catalunia.
Objective : to develop a modular, industrial circulating F. B. C. boiler.
This is the second of two contracts, the first being CS/312/86 limited to the definition, feedstock characterisation and engineering of this boiler. This engineering study has been completed and lead to the construction of a unit to demonstrate the capability of this technology to respond to the requirements of availability, reliability, environmental impact and efficiency that will enable it to be marketed in the future.
The Demonstration Plant can be divided in the following components and/or main equipment for a better comprehension :
- Boiler
. Furnace
. Cyclone
. Heat Recovery Area (HRA)
- Feeding System (coal and limestone)
- Ash Handling System
- Gas Cleaning System
- Control System
The boiler is of the natural circulation, balanced draft type, for outdoors installation, and comprises basically three parts :
. Furnace
. Cyclone
. HRA
The furnace, the cyclone and the walls of the upper part of HRA, are made of waterwalls, constituted by welded membrane walls.
The furnace is totally enclosed by waterwalls; in its lower part there is the primary air plenum chamber and the grid for proper air distribution is located right under the bed.
The drum is located directly over the furnace, in the upper part of the boiler. Its mission, as in all the natural circulation boilers, is to assure the absence of humidity and a lowconcentration of salt disolved in the steam to the turbine, as well as to allow the correct circulation of water/steam in the boiler.
The cyclone is an integral part of the boiler, being formed by water cooled walls, with two annular headers at the top and the bottom, being connected directly to the furnace and to the HRA. The boiler control and safety system assures the safe boiler operation, the purge procedures, lighting off and sequential trip procedures. The analogic control system governs the coal and limestone feed, the waste material removal, the air flow, the furnace pressure and the feed water flow.
