Objective
To test a new design of burner from F. TOSI with a capacity of 4.5 tons/h.
The project is aimed at the study and construction of a large capacity burner (4 to 5 t/h) for coal-water slurries the purpose of which is to feed large size industrial boilers and/or power boilers. Under contract CS. /00491/84 Snamprogetti has defined the construction technology of small size industrial burners (2 t/h) for coal-water slurries making experiments on a 15 MWt refractory lined boiler in Enichem Anic (ENI Group) factory at Manfredonia.
This experiment pointed out the need to design larger burners suitable for industrial processes using large water tube boilers.
In the present projectBy this project, Snamprogetti and F. TOSI intend to replace one of the six burners installed on 300 t/h steam boiler (200 MWt) existing in Enichem Anic factory at Porto Torres with a large capacity burner designed for water-coal mixtures.
During experimentation, all operating variables of combustion will be monitored and special attention shall be paid to the life of the materials used inorder to identify those materials able to ensure an average life of the plant comparable with that of traditional plants.
The project will consist of three phases:
During the first phase, a burner having a capacity of 4 to 5 tons/h of water-coal mixture will be designed. A more detailed study will be made to define the wear resistant materials to be used in the construction of the atomizing tips. Moreover, the modifications to the boiler front will be defined to install the new burner.
After the first phase of design and research on materials, the second phase will concern the construction of the burner and of the relevant atomizing tips.
At the same time, the boiler will be modified to install the new burner.
With the installation of new instrumentation, the interconnection with the existing regulation and control system will be ensured.
Furthermore, the pump will be installed and the slurry feed lines and atomization air ducts laid. During the third phase, a series of tests willbe conducted aiming at identifying the optimal conditions of combustion. Direct measurements will be taken as to the flame temperature (by means of an optical pyrometer) and the operating parameters of the burner ( feed pressure).
Also indirect measurements will be taken as to the performance of the burner through analyses of the solid particles and analyses of flue gases.
Finally, the wear resistance of the materials will be assessed.
