ITALIAN COAL REFINERY: 250,000 T/Y OF C W M [PHASE 1] BASIC DESIGN

Objective

To design a coal refinery in Italy to manufacture and market clean fuels derivals from coal.
From the completed design, costs have been developed which show that, while beneficiated coal water mixtures were not competitive with the use of coal followed by flue gas desulphurisation, the use of a beneficiated coal powder might be made competitive.
The refinery is being designed to produce from raw coal : (i.e. low ash, low sulphur)
- beneficiated coal-water mixture (C.W.M)
- beneficiated coal powder
- special clean coal fuels.
The production capacity of CWM will be about 250,000 t/y.
The fuel produced, using the ECOCARB process, have low ash levels, including low levels of pyritic sulphur and heavy metals. The low ash levels and consistency of the CWM should make it possible to use it in existing oil-fired boiler with little or no reduction in rated power.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
