Objective
HOME aims to produce an intelligent multimodal and multimedia user interface, a 'home assistant' offering a new dimension of natural man-machine communication for the remote control and even tele-operation (via mobile phone) of all home appliances, easily usable by the vast majority of elderly and disabled people. This will give such users a new freedom with home appliances and services through the use of natural language processing (NLP) and gesture recognition (GR). Natural and intuitive speech dialogues will be developed, allowing the user to communicate with the device very flexibly, without being tied to specific commands and syntax. Tele-operation from outside the home of electronic devices inside the home will be possible by speaking into a mobile phone. A continuous one-year assessment of the acceptance and usability of the 'home assistant' will be carried out in three test sites.
