DEVELOPMENT OF A MULTIMEDIA DATABASE PROVIDING INFORMATION ON THE ACCESSIBILITY IN PUBLIC BUILDINGS FOR PEOPLE WITH HANDICAPS TO THEIR MOBILITY

Objective

For disabled or elderly people, public facilities are often inaccessible because of physical barriers to mobility. Information on access is a great step towards independence, yet is rarely available, particularly for business and private travel abroad. This project will produce a marketable database with information on barriers to mobility in European cities and local districts, on the basis of transnational standards, made available through CD-ROMs and on-line services. It will comprise a BIS model town guide - a transnational concept called Town-guides for the handicapped; a data-collection tool for producing these following the model town guide; and a multimedia database giving information on accessibility of public buildings to people with mobility handicaps.
