Objective
The HATS project will develop a set of high-tech state-of-the-art hand assessment instruments with data acquisition capabilities. These tools will help reduce by 50% the current hand assessment time using low tech mechanical solutions. Three main component parts are envisaged: a robust data acquisition assessment tool for hand therapists, to facilitate simple recording of hand assessment and re-evaluation measurements; a 'clever box' for receiving and storing data from the hand assessment tools for transfer to a PC mother computer for analysis, and appropriate Windows environment software for box and PC. Both the 'clever box' and the software will be user-friendly, incorporating multimedia concepts like LCD, graphics representation, sound and speech synthesis. The hand assessment measurement data transferred from the box to the PC will facilitate easy and accurate record keeping, high-quality report presentation for consultant and insurance purposes, and an efficient data collection procedure for outcome/prognosis indicators.
