Objective
NI/CD BATTERIES ARE ABOUT 10 TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE THAN LEAD ACID BATTERIES. THIS IS PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE FOR USE IN ELECTRICAL VEHICLES. IN ADDITION CD IS POISONOUS EVEN IN SMALL QUANTITIES AND IN SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES THE USE IN MANUFACTURING PROCESSES HAS BEEN FORBIDDEN. IN THIS PROJECT THE POSSIBILITIES ARE BEING EXPLORED TO REPLACE CD AND NI BY IRON. IN ADDITION THE NI/CD BATTERY IS REDESIGNED TO ALLOW CHEAPER PRODUCTION.
