Objective
To cover the supply of heat, air conditioning and electricity of San Pellegrino.
The actual annual production was 5,936 x 1000000 kWh electricity. 11,41 x 1000000000 Kcal thermal and 0,144 x 1000000 Kcal cooling with an annual consumption of 20,37 x 1000000000 Kcal of oil. These figures are lower than the initially forecasted, however, this project was the first of its kind which was financed by the E.E.C. and was successfully completed.
The plant runs at full load from the end of the 80's and the project aims have been achieved; there are some troubles in relation to the environmental aspects because the natural gas cogenerative engines have emmission factor of nitrogen monoxide very high; at this time we are trying a pollution reduction system involving three-way catalyst.
The project covers the supply of heat, air conditioning and electricity to the borough of San Pellegrino in the city of Reggio Emilia. It consists of a diesel engine covering all the electricity needs, while the overproduced electricity is sold to the local PPC. A water-water heat pump is used for covering part of heating and cooling demands. Waste heat is used for covering heating and Domestic Hot Water demands, either directly at 90 Deg. C, or at 45 deg. C after passing through heat exchanger. The installed capacity is 3081 kW electricity, 8000000 Kcal/h thermal, and 2.4 x 1000000 Kcal/h cooling.
