COST EFFECTIVE ENERGY SAVING MEASURES FOR LIGHTWEIGHT RELOCATABLE BUILDINGS

Objective

Thermal upgrading of 85 lightweight relocatable school buildings. Identification of cost effective investments.
Information has been collected for the appropriate relocatable classrooms, and the monitoring equipment has been selected and purchased. A simplified calculation model has been set up, while a database program and additional hard disk storage is at hand.
Two selected schools have been fully equipped while the other nine are furnished with hour run meters to record the performance of the electric block storage heaters. The necessary gas meters for a number of schools are awaiting installation. Basic information on all classrooms has been recorded and is ready to be retrieved under various headings.
Data in one of the schools have been gathered and tested. Problems with sensors were identified and correction actions were applied.
Measurements were made for controlling the ventilation rate; tests conducted with a pressurization of 50 Pa give hourly air change values between 9 and 14.
The problems associated with the installation of the energy conservation have been minimal.
1. Identification of the most efficient retroffiting actions
2. Retroffiting works
3. Assessment of results
The duplication should be obtained through a standardization of works and the improvement of characteristics of buildings at the pre-fabrication stage in factory. The investment cost is expected to be 860 ECU per building.
